Viphandh Roengpithya, Ph.D.
President, Asian University
Dr. Viphandh is the President of Asian University, Chon Buri, a university he founded in 1997.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree and a Ph.D. degree from Imperial College London. After completing his Ph.D., he spent six years working as an engineer in the U.S. with Sylvania, GTE and then ITT. In 1974, he became Managing Director of ITT Thailand Limited, a position he held until 1981. From 1981 to 1983 he was the Managing Director of Italthai Industrial Company Limited. From 1984 to 1995 he was founder & cofounder of 4 small but successful companies and remains a Director of Viptel Group; Draco PCB Public Company Limited; KV Electronics Company Limited., etc.
For national and public service, he was appointed as an advisor of the Ministry of Science & Technology for 2 years in 1984 - 1985. Later in 1991 - 1992 he was an advisor to the Deputy Minister of Finance. In 1993 - 1995 he was invited to be an Outside Director of the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) for listing and delisting of public companies. The following year, 1996, he became the initiator and later one of the founding members of the Institute of Board of Director of Thailand (IOD).
He was Vice Chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries 1998 to 2002. He served as a Director of the Federation of Thai Industries and was nominated to chair the APEC Business Advisory Council ("ABAC") for the year 2003. He is also a forty-niner and past Chairman of the Young Presidents' Organization of Thailand, a guest lecturer at the MiniMBA for Health at the Chulalongkorn Hospital. He has also been invited to be guest speakers from many universities both locally and overseas including ISCTE (The Instituto Superior de Ciencias do Trabalho e da Empress) at Lisbon University in Portugal and Environment-Campus Birkenfeld at Fachhochschule Trier in Germany, as well as government & private enterprises. In the year 2001, he was awarded the Mekhala '43 Award for being the
best educational TV series program "Sharpen Your Wits with Dr. Vip". He has been popular in the morning program called "This Morning" on TV Channel 5 during 1998 - 2005. Now he is actively involved in the morning program on TV Channel 3 every other Thursday morning.
He is one of the key founding members of Asian University located in Banglamung, Chon Buri, and has been appointed as the University President since December 1998.
The university has strong working linkages with Imperial College London for curriculum development, faculty staff development and validation of degree standards. The university had taken the first intake of students in June 1998. |
