International Students

Visas and legal requirements

Thai Government Relations

Asian U students do not have any special privileges under Thai Law and are advised always to co-operate fully with the Thai authorities.

Visas

The University can handle visa arrangements for all non-Thai students from abroad and can also assist in securing visas for spouses and children of students, if prior permission for married accompaniment has been obtained.

Students in receipt of an offer of admission must obtain a non-immigrant visa (code "ED") from the Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate in their respective countries.

All non-Thai students are expected  to leave Thailand within 30 days of the end of their programs at the latest. Non-Thai students are responsible for ensuring that their visas and passports are kept up-to-date. If they fail to comply with Thai Government regulations, they must take full responsibility for all consequences.

Re-entry Visas

Non-Thai students who travel out of Thailand during their period of study should obtain a re-entry visa before departure. The Registrar’s Office will arrange the re-entry visa for a student provided that application is made together with an approved leave request at least two weeks before departure. At present the standard Thai Government Immigration Department application fee is 1,000 Baht for single re-entry and 3,800 Baht for multiple re-entries.

If no re-entry visa is obtained, a new application for permission to stay in Thailand must be made before the student returns to Thailand. Students who leave without a re-entry visa MUST follow the steps prescribed above as if they are new students. Return without a proper non-immigrant visa means leaving the country again after 15 days.

Visa Extension Fees

Students are responsible for paying the Immigration Department fees of 1,900 Baht each time they apply for extension of stay in Thailand.

Visas of Students’ Spouses and children

Please let is know if you need assistance with visas for spouses or children. As far as possible, the University will assist in securing visas for spouses of students.

Report on Ninety Days of Stay

Students, together with spouses and dependents, if staying in Thailand longer than ninety days must submit to the Immigration Department reports concerning their place of stay as soon as possible upon expiration of ninety days, and every 90 days thereafter. Students are required to do so every ninety days of stay. There is no fee, just a form to complete and submit. Students who fail to comply with this immigration provision may be fined up to Baht 2,500 and with an additional fine not exceeding Baht 200 for each day which passes until the provision is complied with.

Identity Cards

Every student is issued with an Asian U identity card. Proof of identity is required for many transactions on the campus and may be asked for in the Library or at other campus facilities. Students may need to produce their ID cards when they leave and enter the campus, and are strongly advised to carry their ID card with them when they are off-campus.  Normally, this Student ID card should be sufficient proof of identity.

Work Permit

Non-Thais on student visas are not permitted to take paid employment in Thailand
