What is Management?
Any organization – be it a school, a community club, a government department, a residents’ committee, a small business enterprise or a multinational corporation – must be organized and properly managed if it is to achieve its objectives.
The term “management” has many definitions. It is commonly defined as the art of getting work done through people. Another definition simply states that to manage is to make decisions.
Management: A business example
An entrepreneur intends to start a business. He/She has to make the following decisions:
What kind of business?
– trading, manufacturing, retailing or providing services.
What are the outputs of the business?
– specific kinds of goods or services.
What are the objectives of the business?
– to make a profit.
– to have a bigger market share.
– to keep the entrepreneur himself/herself busy.
What are the resources needed?
– how much capital (savings, bank loan)?
– how many workers to employ?
– where is the factory or office to be located?
How to get organized?
– how many departments?
– how many people?
– who is in charge of what?
What are the activities needed to achieve the objectives?
– who is to do what?
– who is to plan the activities?

The Management program at ASIAN UNIVERSITY provides knowledge and associated skills in the broad field of Management which will equip graduates to work effectively in a wide range of industries. The emphasis will be on the applications of management, and production of effective practitioners.
The Management Program will develop in students the capability to:
• have coherent and in-depth knowledge of Management;
• reason logically, use professionally-based judgment and know to distinguish fact for opinion, and theory and practice in identifying and solving business problems;
• be able to accept responsibility with all the obligations that entails, as well as being able to assert their rights, moral judgment, based upon the analytical and critical review of the issues involved;

• possess an international perspective in their professional performance and decision-making;
