What is MIS?
MIS is a general term for the computer systems in an enterprise that provide information about its business operations, supports decision making and give an enterprise a competitive advantage and the foundation of success. MIS is the application of information technology and systems in business.
The Asian University MIS program is designed to prepare students to become leaders in the use of information systems for the benefit of organizations and society. Asian University MIS program focuses on educating the students about the development and use of information systems as decision-making and problem-solving tools. The program also is intended to develop an understanding of the managerial issues encountered in the operation or introduction of information systems in organizations, particularly, how these tools can be used to gain a competitive edge and to re-engineer and optimize an organization

Programme design
Courses typically begin in the send half of August each year and end in early May. The curriculum integrates four main themes:
Foundation of general business studies including core business subjects, covering all functional areas of management, law, social science, language and humanities.
Integration of various Management Information Systems functions and disciplines through MIS major subjects.
Specialization by undertaking MIS electives, which allow students to pursue their special interests in certain topics in the areas of IS and IT.
Finalization through (1) a rigorous bachelor’s research project that students can apply and express their understanding of the topics and (2) general business electives, allowing students to broaden their understanding of business management and other functions.

Key skills students will acquire
Students will learn to balance IT/IS skills with good business judgment.
The MIS major program offers a professional curriculum designed to prepare students for lifelong careers in designing, managing, or consulting about information technologies and services, in public, corporate, and nonprofit organizations.
The MIS program couples best practices training in the analysis, design, development and use of information technologies with the essential career development skills of communication, team building, analysis, and critical and systems thinking that are necessary for leading management positions in business, industry, government, academic, and nonprofit organizations.
Understanding the complex issues of information, technology, and human systems as well as human – computer interaction will directly increase the value of MIS major graduates to their future organizations.
Students with MIS as a major will demonstrate the ability to:
• generate ideas, concepts, proposals, solutions or arguments independently and/or collaboratively in response to set briefs and/or as self-initiated activity;
• employ systems thinking in the processes of observation, investigation, speculative enquiry, visualisation and/or making; select, test and make appropriate use of materials, processes and environments;
• develop and optimize ideas through to material outcomes, for programs, systems and processes
• apply resourcefulness and entrepreneurial skills to support their own practice, and/or the practice of others.
In general BBA Graduates with MIS as a major will have developed skills in communication and expression through visual and verbal forms and, typically, will be able to use visual languages to investigate, analyse, interpret, develop and articulate ideas and information. Their work will be informed by professional practice including:
• the critical and contextual dimensions of the student's elected focus in particular, and of information systems in general, for example the business, cultural, economic, environmental, ethical, global, historical, political, societal, and/or theoretical contexts;
• the practitioner’s relationship with audiences, clients, markets, users, consumers, and/or participants.
