Master of Arts in Interaction Design
English Programme
You can enter this programme in August and January each year.
| With 3 choices of study plan (targeted at students from various backgrounds), 3 exit points (providing varied depths of study), and 3 lengths of course (supporting students’ workflow needs), this master’s is designed to be ‘user-friendly’. Classes range from design theory and design research through skills workshops to practical ‘hands-on’ project-centred learning.
Students get the opportunity to spend at least one year pursuing their Interaction Design related interests on thesis projects centred around topics such as Critical Discourse, Semiotic Analysis, Social Narrative, Experience Design, Communicative Environments, Pervasive Networks, Pattern Languages, Media Channelling, Posthuman Ethics, Multi-sense Engagement, Digital Ontology, Tangible Interactions and Glocal Diversity.
Our philosophy is to encourage students to review the world of technology with a critical, almost idealistic approach in order to develop ideas and engaging interactions that will feed the future of this exciting industry. |

Creative Design and User Experience
After engineers, the biggest challenge for companies is finding high-quality creative design and user-experience talent. Since almost every company is trying to create a highly compelling user experience that keeps people engaged with their product, it is tough to find people who have this type of experience (especially with mobile devices including tablets) and a demonstrated track record of success.

Asian University’s MA Programme in Interaction Design aims to be the foremost contributor to the development of communication media and information technology in Thailand and Asia by providing a high quality teaching and learning experience which is flexible through offering various study options (A1, A2 & B) as well as study schedules (Part-time & Full time).
Programme options
The Interaction Design programme requires students to develop their hands-on creative and practical skills, as well as the more theoretical aspects of interaction design. Electives are designed to appeal to students with different kinds of individual backgrounds and interests. Three kinds of study option are offered:
Plan A1
For more mature students already working in the industry, the Master’s programme will provide an opportunity to really focus in-depth on an aspect of the discipline that they find particularly interesting with a view to becoming an active contributor to their field of study.
Plan A2
For graduates from related disciplines such as Multimedia, Communication Design, or Communication Arts, the Master’s programme will provide a chance for both in-depth study as well as broader development within the discipline.
Plan B
For graduates from other disciplines who wish to refocus their education and career towards this exciting new field, the Master’s programme will provide the opportunity to study more fundamental aspects of the discipline as well as enabling students to investigate more in-depth elements.
All three study options support varied learning strategies including research through practice, skills development through workshops, research methodology, and theoretical reasoning. The programme aims to provide an atmosphere, in which students take responsibility for their own learning, research, and reflection. Traditional lectures are kept to a minimum, in favour of more student-centred learning. Students spend much of their time in the class/studio often collaborating with one another and turning to one on one support and feedback from programme tutors.

The basic programme structure, as shown above, consists of alternative study plans. Each plan is aimed to suit the wide ranging needs of individual students both in terms of course content as well as learning schedule.
Plan A1 (Full thesis option)
Students are required to produce two final submissions; a thesis project (mostly practical) and a thesis essay (mostly written).
Plan A2 (Half-thesis option)
Students are required to produce one final submission; either a thesis project (mostly practical) or a thesis essay (mostly written). In addition students will be required to study and pass 6 interaction design subjects provided by the programme.
Plan B (Coursework and Independent Study Project)
Students are required to attend coursework in 10 interaction design subjects. In addition students will be required to produce an Independent Study project worth 6 credits.
Qualifying exit points
In order for the programme to be flexible and sensitive to the needs of individual students, it is possible to exit with any of three awards:
