Peter has always dreamed of going to the moon, only that his moon is not just the regular yellow moon that we all know, his is blue. Peter's mother used to tell him the story about a little boy who somehow ended up on the Bluemoon and there he could ask for anything he wanted. Before the death of his mother, Peter listened to the story as he went to sleep every single night in his mother's embrace. As his eyes shut, he would feel the softest lips gently kissing him on both cheeks and hear the whispered words in the loveliest voice ever saying "Good night, button. I love you."
No more of that!
Little Peter's mother died of pneumonia while Peter was at school two months ago. He can still remember the afternoon when he had got home and had found his grandmother crying beside the still body of his beloved mother. He had rushed to both women and had burst into tears.
Now his grandmother takes care of him, but he never hears the story of the Bluemoon ever again. Every night she comes tuck him in, but it is not like what his mother used to do. "I want Mommy" he says to his Nana once when she is tucking him in. "Just close your eyes, baby. She will always be here beside you. It's time to sleep now." Nana answers with sad eyes.
After Nana leaves, he still cannot sleep, so Peter looks out the small window by his bed. Suddenly, he sees a shooting star, and wishes "Please, take me to the Bluemoon. I want my Mommy." He falls asleep that night with a smile on his face, hoping that once he gets to the Bluemoon, he can make a wish to see Mommy again.
Later that night, an angel comes in Peter's dream and tells him that the Bluemoon is waiting for him. "Just take my hand and I will take you there" she says in a kind voice. Peter gently puts his hand on hers and there they go, flying through the quiet night towards the Bluemoon. There are little blue men on the Bluemoon who stand together and welcome him to their home. "Mommy never said there were people here" he exclaims with delight. The little blue men give him a glowing stone, and tell him to shut his eyes and make a wish. After he finishes making the wish, he opens his eyes, and there before him stands his mother.
Peter gasps and throws himself into her arms. "Mommy! Mommy! I miss you so much. Where have you been?" Peter shouts. "Well, button, I've been right here watching over you and everything you do. I miss you too, honey" his mother answers in her usual lovely tone. "Can I stay here with you? Please?" he begs. "Button, there are so many other things in life you have not seen and enjoyed. And you can't leave Nana all by herself. Who's going to take care of her if you stay here? I love you so dearly and I will always think of you. Now, button, whenever you miss me, just hold the stone and I'll know that you're thinking of me."
