Internship

During my summer vacation, I was employed as a business analyst at AccessCAPITAL Ltd., the investment banking company, for ten weeks. That was my first time of working, and I have realized that it is not as easy as I thought before I did my internship.

          My main responsibilities included:
                    - Assisting the managers and analysts to create clients' database.
                    - Conducting secondary research through the professional sources, such as ACnielsen or                     Pricewatercooper, to identify the industry overview and the industry trend.
                    - Assisting the managers and analysts to collect and analyze the clients' information.

                    - Assisting analysts to create the private placement memorandum, the professional                     business plan for the prospect investors.

                    - Creating the financial model, for instance, creating the revenue model to know how the                     companies generate incomes.

My work usually started at 9 o' clock in the morning and finished around 9-10 in the evening. Anyway, sometimes I had to work till midnight. Approximately, I work around 60 hours a week on weekday, and in some weeks I had to work more during the weekend.

Investment banking tasks generally deal with the companies that want to raise funding to enhance their working capital or other things. The investment banking company will evaluate and analyze the performances of those companies and also the industry trends in order that they can create the private placement memorandum to present to the investors.

The investment banking tasks require people who are very enthusiastic and willing to work hard. Besides, they also require analytical and communication skills because the investment bankers basically have to deal with a lot of people. This kind of job might seem to be very interesting because the investment banking tasks can generate very high income. Anyway, all of those particular projects must be finished within the due date. Those investment bankers might have to sit in front of the computer a whole days to analyze those particular deals.

My work might sound very interesting because I was assigned to the great tasks during my internship. Anyway, all of those assigned tasks could not be finished within 1-2 hours. I sometimes had to do the same task for a week, 9 in the morning till late, to finish those tasks.

I have realized that it is one kind of work in which we can apply all of the theories that we have been taught to the real world of business. Besides, I also gained other important things from this internship. For instance, I ponder what I have to do to succeed in the investment-banking field, and also I have come to know myself better since I did my internship.
