Asian UST international students experiences:
Catherine Robinson, British National.

I have been living in Thailand for almost a third of my life yet embarrassingly enough, I have been unsuccessful in picking up the Thai language. Despite this communication weakness I decided to further my studies at university level in Thailand. This decision was primary based upon the standard of the international universities in Thailand. Thus the key criterion I was looking for was an English-speaking faculty, preferably with native speakers. Asian UST appeared to have an ideal faculty profile with lecturers from Britain and the United states. I consequently choose Asian UST as my university destination.

Though my mother tongue of English is the desired level of many Thai students, I long ironically to be literate in their language. Overcoming these language barriers is difficult and has hindered the growth of my relationships with Thai people. Nevertheless this obstacle didn't stop me from enrolling into Asian UST.

Upon attending Asian UST I was concerned that my lack of linguistic skills would have had a detrimental effect on my social life, inevitably leaving me in the dark about fellow classmates' conversations. However, this fear was erased when I heard English spoken all around campus. It was music to my ears. Thai students were speaking English to each other. This sight of familiar exchange gave me a sense of belonging and instantly welcomed me here to Asian UST.

Though my Thai hasn't improved much, I have made many new friends, which has made my first year at Asian UST a pleasant one.
